To evolve Scyther into Scizor in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, you’ll need to use the classic trade evolution method using Metal Coat. This full trade evolution process is back in this game, unlike Pokémon Legends: Arceus, which makes it possible to evolve Scyther normally again.
In this guide, we’ll cover how to catch Scyther, get the Metal Coat, and how to trade it to evolve into Scizor.
How To Find & Catch Scyther In Pokémon Legends: Z-A

To catch Scyther in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, head to Wild Zone 13, which unlocks after you reach Rank E in the main story. Scyther appears mostly at night, so plan your visit during nighttime hours. If you don’t see any Scyther, try fast traveling out of the area and back again to refresh the spawns. Keep exploring until you find one.
How to Get the Metal Coat

After catching Scyther, you’ll need to find a Metal Coat to complete the trade evolution. The easiest way to get one is by doing side quest 101, “Steadfast as Steal,” which unlocks near Wild Zone 17 once you reach Rank A. Completing this quest will reward you with a Metal Coat.
An easy way to get a Metal Coat is to buy it from an NPC inside Racine Construction, located in the southeast part of Lumiose City, after you’ve finished the main story.

How To Evolve Scyther Into Scizor In Pokémon Legends: Z-A
After catching a Scyther and obtaining a Metal Coat, open your bag menu and select Scyther. Choose the “Give an item to hold” option, then equip the Metal Coat to Scyther.

Next, use the Link Trade feature to trade Scyther with another player. Once the trade is completed, Scyther will instantly evolve into Scizor.
Make sure to trade with someone you trust, as Scizor will first appear on their side, and they will need to send it back to you.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A doesn’t have the Linking Cable, so this trade-based method is the only way to evolve Scyther into Scizor and other Pokémon like Onix into Steelix. That’s all you need to know to evolve your Scyther into Scizor in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
